Ethnic Representation in American Symbols: The Liberty Bell

Ethnic Representation in American Symbols: The Liberty Bell is a case study of the heritage controversy surrounding the construction of the new Liberty Bell center, the NPS’ approach to the enslaved history beneath the surface, and a collaboration of protest for the historical truth. What I learned from this study is cultural heritage professionals  must consult communities about sensitive heritage issues such as slavery; the public is looking for complicated narratives, not homogenous and patriotic stories of the past; and various groups of people adopt heritage symbols like the Liberty Bell with different meanings.
